What is the VITA Program?

You May Qualify for Free Tax Help Through the VITA Program

 

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free, confidential tax return preparation for eligible low- to moderate-income individuals and families. Services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers. Learn more about the VITA program here.

Taxpayers

The Tax Cure and Relief Foundation provides free tax return preparation through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program for individuals and families with low to moderate income.


Our IRS-certified volunteers help ensure tax returns are prepared accurately and confidentially. Services are provided at no cost, and appointments are scheduled in advance to allow sufficient time for each taxpayer.


We are committed to treating every taxpayer with respect and providing clear guidance throughout the tax preparation process.

Free tax preparation services are available to individuals and families with low to moderate income. Eligibility may vary based on household size and tax situation. Availability is subject to program scope and volunteer capacity.


VITA volunteers prepare returns that fall within program guidelines. Some complex tax situations may be outside the scope of the program and cannot be prepared at the site.


All tax preparation services provided through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program are free of charge. There are no hidden fees or required donations.


Appointments can be scheduled online through our website. Availability is limited and appointments fill quickly during peak tax season.


 

Required intake forms are reviewed with an IRS-certified volunteer during your appointment. You may review forms in advance, but please do not complete or submit them unless instructed by staff.


 You will need to bring:

  • Government-issued photo identification
  • Social Security cards or ITIN letters for all individuals listed on the return
  • All tax documents (Forms W-2, 1099, SSA-1099, etc.)
  • Last year’s tax return, if available

Yes. Protecting taxpayer privacy is a priority. All information is handled in accordance with IRS confidentiality and data protection requirements.


Tax returns are prepared by IRS-certified volunteers who have completed required training and certification. Each return is reviewed for accuracy before it is finalized.


Yes. Volunteers receive IRS training and certification before assisting taxpayers. No prior tax experience is required. Volunteer opportunities are available throughout the tax season.
